CANFIELD

Jan. 11

Bad check: Such a check was reportedly passed at a Railroad Street business.

Jan. 12

Arrest: Officers on Herbert Road pulled over and charged Kevin Carter, 59, of Harvard Avenue, Youngstown, with driving under failure to reinstate his status.

Jan. 13

Arrest: Police on Edwards Street arrested Logan Whatley, 30, of Akron on a driving-under-suspension charge.

AUSTINTOWN

Jan. 11

Breaking and entering: Someone shattered a front-door window and broke into MetroPCS, 1502 S. Raccoon Road, then took an undisclosed sum of money.

Theft: Money was reported missing from an account at a Mahoning Avenue bank.

Misuse of a credit card: A Fairview Road resident noticed fraudulent credit-card charges.

Jan. 12

Arrest: Austintown police exchanged custody with Campbell authorities of Frankie V. Russo of Gaither Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a theft warrant. Russo, 25, was accused of stealing about $345 worth of beer Dec. 17, 2017, from Giant Eagle, 5220 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: A London Drive woman alleged her sister took from her two checks for more than $1,700.

Jan. 13

Theft: Stolen checks were cashed at a South Meridian Road auto-care business.

Vandalism: Someone turned off the thermostat in a North Canfield-Niles Road business, which reportedly caused water pipes to burst.

Recovered property: A purse was found in the 400 block of South Raccoon Road.

Theft: The rear license plate was removed from a car in the 6800 block of Ruby Courts.

Jan. 14

Drugs: Officers responded to a possible assault at a Woodhurst Drive residence, where they charged Stephen G. Mercier Jr., 33, of Woodhurst, Austintown, with a felony drug-abuse count. While in a vehicle, Mercier had a single white pill on his leg that was a controlled substance, police alleged.

Jan. 15

Assault: A person reported having been kicked in the face and back during an assault in the 5300 block of Seventy-Six Drive.

Theft/drug paraphernalia: Authorities charged Heather M. Herron, 38, of Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, with theft and possessing drug paraphernalia, as well as Edward A. Ennett, 49, same address, with complicity to theft after having responded to a shoplifting call at the TA Youngstown Travel Center, 5400 Seventy-Six Drive. Herron was accused of stealing a pack of cigarettes and two food items from the business, and having a suspected crack-cocaine pipe in her pocket; in addition, Ennett drove away knowing Herron had committed the theft, a report stated.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop in the 4400 block of Mahoning Avenue resulted in the arrest of Jeffrey A. Poole, 56, on a charge of possessing drug paraphernalia after police alleged the Erlanger, Ky., man had two cut straws with a white powdery substance.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 200 block of Carnegie Avenue was found with slashed tires.

Theft: A fraudulent return reportedly took place at Walmart, 6001 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: A man reportedly failed to pay a $65 cab fare after having been dropped off in the 4600 block of Deer Creek Drive.

Jan. 16

Arrest: Officers were dispatched to the Trumbull County jail to take custody of James D. Thomas, 30, of Timberbrook Drive, Canfield, who was wanted on an Austintown Area Court warrant charging him with a probation violation related to a theft count.

Drugs: An inducing-panic charge was pending against a 30-year-old Youngstown man after police responded to a report of an unconscious male at California Palms Addiction Recovery Campus on state Route 46. Two insulin needles and a piece of paper with a suspected narcotic powder were found in his room, a report showed.

Arrest: Police picked up Heather A. Reese, 42, after learning that Reese, of Kleber Avenue, Austintown, was wanted on a Niles Municipal Court warrant accusing her of failing to pay restitution.

Jan. 17

Stolen property: Authorities arrested Brandy J. Thompson, 40, of Woodland Trace Drive, Austintown, on a felony warrant charging receiving stolen property, related to two checks that had been stolen last month.

Theft: A Cranberry Drive resident discovered a credit card had been used without authorization.

HUBBARD

Jan. 14

Domestic violence: Authorities charged Nolan J. Hall, 25, of Mackey Street, Hubbard, with domestic violence and aggravated menacing after his girlfriend alleged Hall had made several threats against her, including one to shoot the accuser, causing the victim to fear for her safety and that of her children.

Jan. 15

Arrest: While conducting a welfare check of a woman walking on North Main Street, police charged Angela S. Salem of Como Street, Struthers, with disorderly conduct while intoxicated. Salem, 44, was dressed inappropriately for the subzero temperature, became argumentative at times with officers and was intoxicated, a report said.

Arrest: Police on School Street arrested Lindsey M. Allison, 37, of Coronado Avenue, Youngstown, who was accused of failing to appear for arraignment in Girard Municipal Court.

GIRARD

Jan. 12

Arrest: Authorities responded to a Girard City School Board office, where they charged Rebecca Mattey, 31, of Hazel Street, Girard, with disorderly conduct after saying Mattey went on a profanity-laced tirade with several school officials, then refused to desist and leave.

Jan. 13

Arrest: Warren police handed Jargel Davis, 38, to Girard authorities. Davis, of Oregon Avenue, Warren, was wanted on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in Girard Municipal Court.

Domestic violence: Roland McCloskey of Illinois Avenue, Girard, faced domestic-violence and drug-abuse charges after his girlfriend alleged an intoxicated McCloskey had punched and choked her. While searching him, officers found two bags of suspected marijuana and a pill bottle that contained a bag of suspected cocaine, a report showed.

Jan. 14

Criminal mischief: A woman noticed someone had spray-painted a portion of her North Ward Avenue residence, resulting in $200 worth of damage to the siding.

Trespassing: An East Main Street woman reported having seen a suspicious man standing on her rear deck before he walked away while on a cellphone.

Jan. 15

Theft: A woman reported a wallet and a hand bag missing from a vehicle in the 500 block of North State Street.

Aggravated menacing: Harvey B. Robison Jr., 49, of Hancock Street, Girard, faced an aggravated-menacing count after an officer alleged that while transporting him to the Trumbull County jail on a domestic-violence charge, Robison threatened the life of his accuser.

Jan. 16

Arrest: Officers charged Sandra J. Freeman, 61, of Trumbull Avenue, Girard, with operating a vehicle impaired and leaving the scene of an accident after she reportedly had backed out of a driveway and struck a tree, then fled. Also, Freeman registered a 0.085 blood-alcohol content, which slightly exceeds Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report stated.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a vacant rental property in the 400 block of Idaho Avenue. Nothing appeared to have been taken, but several pipes froze then burst, causing flooding throughout the structure.

Theft: An official with a West Liberty Street business discovered a $200 electronic tablet missing.

Jan. 17

Aggravated menacing: An East Wilson Avenue couple reported a man had threatened them, apparently after accusing the pair of selling and abusing drugs. The male victim alleged the man threatened to shoot him in the face.

Arrest: Police were dispatched to Cortland to pick up Mistee E. Vandyke, 36, of North State Street, Girard, who was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Menacing: A 16-year-old Girard girl told officers that shortly after having returned to her home, a woman pushed her way into the residence and yelled profanities at the teen while trying to ascertain the woman’s daughter’s whereabouts.

Jan. 19

Criminal damaging: A South Lorain Avenue woman told police a mechanic informed her that someone had cut a brake line under her vehicle.

LIBERTY

Jan. 13

Aggravated menacing: A woman alleged a Girard man, 23, came to her Truman Avenue apartment and threatened to shoot the occupants and others unless the man was given $150 he said he had won.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Scott Lane man reportedly admitted having taken a family member’s 2000 Chevrolet, without permission, to return home. No charges were filed, however.

Jan. 14

Auto theft: Video surveillance reportedly showed two men stealing a 1996 Mercury vehicle from a parking lot in the 200 block of Goldie Road.

Jan. 15

Theft: A license plate was removed from a trailer in the 1100 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Jan. 16

Arrest: Boardman police relinquished custody of Nicoletta M. Spagnola of Ridgeway Street, Struthers. Spagnola, 31, was wanted on a township warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on one count of possessing drug-abuse instruments.

Assault: A Niles man alleged a 47-year-old man had struck his head with a wooden tray hard enough to break it while the victim was at his former wife’s East Montrose Street residence.

Arrest: While assisting a motorist who had gotten stuck in snow on Belmont Avenue, officers charged Michael Bansberg, 23, with operating a vehicle impaired and possessing drug paraphernalia after alleging he admitted having a suspected marijuana pipe. In addition, Bansberg, of Overbrook Avenue, Youngstown, registered a 0.154 blood-alcohol content, a report showed.

Aggravated menacing: Officers charged Shayne P. Waller of Frederick Street, Liberty, with aggravated menacing after a township road department supervisor alleged Waller, 26, threatened to shoot him after the accuser had terminated a call with Waller’s irate wife.

Jan. 17

Arrest: Authorities were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to take custody of Heather L. Maravola, 30, of South Dunlap Avenue, Youngstown. Maravola was accused of failing to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.

Arrest: Police picked up Seth Robinson, 31, at the Mahoning County jail upon learning Robinson, of Clingan Road, Poland, was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.

Jan. 18

Arrest: Police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue picked up Douglas M. Uher, 32, of Fernwood Avenue, Youngstown. He was wanted on a Liberty warrant.

Criminal damaging: After receiving information about a man using the 911 line for nonemergency reasons, authorities in the 500 block of Gypsy Lane took into custody Justin D. Stamp, 35, of Hadley Avenue, Liberty, on charges of criminal damaging and resisting arrest after alleging he had fought with police. During a struggle, Stamp also broke an officer’s eyeglasses, a report stated.

Theft: A woman discovered a $300 iPad missing from her room at a Church Hill-Hubbard Road care facility.
