Facing felony charge

Reports said a woman shoved a U.S. marshal on Thursday who was at her Vestal Road apartment looking for her boyfriend, who was wanted on a warrant.

Members of the Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force were at the apartment of Christina Wilson, 38, about 9:20 a.m. and had to pry open a screen door when no one answered.

They were looking for Ralph Smith Jr., no age given, who was wanted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on a warrant on a felony charge of fleeing and eluding. Wilson charged the door and tried to push the lead marshal out of the way, reports said. Marshals ended up getting in and found Smith in a bedroom with his 4-year-old daughter. He was arrested as was Wilson on a felony charge of obstructing official business.

Women’s forum set

The City Club of the Mahoning Valley and the City Club of Cleveland are hosting the “Reflections on the 2017 Women’s March and Next Steps for Equality” forum at Suzie’s Dogs and Drafts, 34 N. Phelps St., at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The event is free and open to the public. The panelists are Cryshanna Jackson Leftwich, Youngstown State University associate politics professor, and Patricia Kelvin, editor for Jewish Journal Monthly Magazine. The event will be moderated by Youngstown Municipal Court Judge Carla Baldwin.

Meanwhile, the anniversary of the march, which drew 500,000 people to the nation’s capital, will be marked with a Power to the Polls march at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.

The event will start at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Sunday. Marchers can participate for free. Organizers say the event will be more like a rally than a march, according to the Women’s March website. Smaller rallies will take place in several U.S. cities, including Cleveland.

The Area Agency on Aging issued a warning Friday about fraudulent calls involving payments for emergency response system services. The agency said to never disclose banking or payment information over phone calls.

“If agency employees meet with someone about services, those services are ordered through our agency after the consumer selects one of our certified providers,” said Lisa Solley, director of communications for the Area Agency on Aging.

If someone receives a suspicious phone call, they are told to call the Agency on Aging at 330-720-8962. Fraudulent calls can also be reported at local police or sheriff’s offices.

Agents raid home

Agents with the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives raided a home Friday morning at 2899 Orchard Ave. and recovered crystal methamphetamine, a loaded handgun, suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and psychedelic mushrooms. Three men in the home were arrested on unrelated arrest warrants.

The Columbiana County Auditor’s office reminds all dog owners the deadline for purchasing 2018 dog licenses is Jan. 31. All dogs 3 months or older must be licensed annually. Licenses cost $10 per dog and can be purchased at the auditor’s office at 105 S. Market St. Licenses are also available at Fuller’s True Value Hardware at 160 N. Market St., East Palestine; Milligan’s True Value Hardware, 320 Smith St., East Liverpool; or Pure Pet. 148 Penn Ave., Salem.
