Selah Dessert Theater to present ‘Misery’

Selah Dessert Theater will present the psychological thriller “Misery,” opening Jan. 25 for a two-weekend run.

Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, the stage version was written by William Goldberg, who also wrote the screen adaptation starring James Caan and Kathy Bates.

The play focuses on novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued after an auto crash by Annie Wilkes, Sheldon’s biggest fan.

As he is recovering at her home, she discovers that her favorite character, Misery, is being killed off in Sheldon’s newest novel. She then forces Sheldon to rewrite the novel to her liking, and it is not long before Sheldon realizes she has no intention of letting him go.

“I have never put a thriller in our season before but when Jim Canacci, our guest director, suggested this play, I couldn’t say no to this edge-of-your-seat story,” said Mary Ruth Lynn, managing director of Selah. “It has generated a lot of interest and opening night is already sold out.”

The cast includes Liz Conrad as Annie and Chuck Kettering as Sheldon in his first appearance on the Selah stage.

The production runs Jan. 25, 26 and 27, and Feb. 2 and 3. Curtain is 8 p.m. each night. Tickets are $17.50 and include dessert at intermission. Seating is limited and reservations can be made by calling 1-800- 838-3006 or at selahrestaurant.com.
