AUCTIONS
Christ the Good Shepherd, St. Joseph the Provider Church will host a quarter auction at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at 633 Porter Ave., Campbell. Doors open at 6:15. Proceeds benefit the church.
Junior Group of Goodwill Auction and Jewelry Sale is set for Feb. 16, at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. It will include Goodwill collectible jewelry, a silent auction of fine jewelry and collectibles, vintage clothing, basket raffle, 50-50 raffle, basket auction, hors d’oeuvres, pastries and cash bar. DANCES
Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., is offering community dance lessons at 4 p.m. Wednesdays in the church fellowship hall. Each lesson is one hour, and the cost is $5 per lesson. Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, will host the 15th annual Father-Daughter Princess Dance at the Lariccia Family Community Center. Fathers or father-figures with a daughter(s) age 5 to 12 are invited for an evening of dinner, a professional photograph, crafts and dancing. This semi-formal dance will take place six nights: 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 9 and 10; 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15 through 17; and 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 18. Tickets will be on sale beginning Tuesday and may be purchased at the park office or by calling 330-726-8105 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or online at boardmanpark.com. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Cost is $40 per couple for Boardman residents, and $50 per couple for nonresidents, $20 for additional Boardman resident child, and $25 for additional non-Boardman resident child.
Niles Friendly Squares will offer square dance lessons from Tuesday through April at Niles S.C.O.P.E. Center, 14 E. State St. An introductory session will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Sessions are designed to cover steps in the basic square dance program. Gene Hammond will be the instructor. There is a fee of $6 per lesson. Niles Friendly Squares will host its next dance at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Niles S.C.O.P.E. Center, 14 E. State St. There will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers as well as tips for experienced dancers. FUNDRAISERS
Austintown Band Parents will host the third annual Jazz & Dessert event at 6 p.m. Jan. 27 at the middle school, 900-1104 S. Raccoon Road. Area amateur and professional bakers will compete to win Best of Show and Best Display awards while the middle school, high school and alumni jazz bands perform under the direction of Jeremy McClaine, Wesley O’Connor and Marc Puypino. Admission is $5 per person and includes 10 dessert samples. Beverages also will be available for purchase. Each baker will provide a finished product for a bakery auction in addition to samples. St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church Social Hall, 764 Fifth St., Struthers, will be the location of a dine-in or takeout spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 19. Proceeds will benefit Lisa Giancola Janci who is in need of a heart transplant. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children age 5 to 10, and free for children under age 5. There will be basket auction and 50-50 raffle tickets; 1 for $1, 7 for $5, 15 for $10 or 30 for $20. Sutliff Museum, 444 Mahoning Ave., Warren, has opened an exhibit that will be open to the public through this month. The exhibit is “Musicians and Scholars: the Dana Family of Warren, Ohio.” It explores the origin of the Dana family and the relationship of Dana to the Sutliff family through Mrs. Phebe Lord Martin Sutliff. The museum is on the second floor of the Warren Trumbull County Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. Admission is free, and hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens is announcing the Flowers of Philly Garden Travel Tour March 2 to 4. The tour also includes Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, The Brandywine River Museum of Art and Longwood Gardens, plus historic sites in the old city of Philadelphia. Junior League of Youngstown will host a trip from Youngstown to New York City from April 13 to 15. Tickets are available until March 14, and payment plans will be accepted but must be paid in full by March 14. Tickets are transferable if unable to attend. No cash refunds will be issued. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
