When: Jan. 22 through May 19
What: The Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Training program promotes awareness and citizen stewardship of Ohio’s natural resources through science-based education and community service.
When: Two Mondays per month and three Saturdays during winter.
Cost: $175, includes training materials, refreshments and more.

Jr. OCVN Training with Mill Creek MetroParks
When: Jan. 29, Feb. 12, Feb. 26, March 5 and March 19, 6:30-8:30 p.m. & March 31, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
What: The Junior Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist program will expose students to relevant natural resource skills and knowledge through training, monthly meetings and volunteer opportunities through OSU Extension and Mill Creek MetroParks.
Where: Various metroparks locations

Tales for Tots
When: Friday, 10-11a.m.
What: When it starts to snow what do animals do? Where do they go? Find out through story, craft and outdoor discovery.
Where: Birch Hill Cabin, at the end of McCollum Road, Youngstown.
Cost: $4 for Mahoning County residents, $6 NR. Additional fee after deadline.
Details: For kids age 2 to 3, plus adult. Register/pay at Ford Nature Center by Jan. 10.

Hand-Feed a Chickadee
When: Saturday, 9-11 a.m.
What: Black-capped chickadees are inquisitive birds that can be coaxed into landing on your hand – especially if you tempt them with food.
Where: Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.
Details: We’ll provide the birdseed if you provide the hands.

Mill Creek Photo Clique: Photographing Backyard Birds
When: Saturday , 10-11:30 a.m.
What: The gathering includes a brief indoor presentation on photographing birds and time outside to put the information into practice near the FNC bird feeding station.

Master Gardener Volunteer Training
When: March 22 through May.
What: Training covers herbs and vegetables to insects and plant botany. Volunteers help with community programs and clinics, including teaching programs throughout Mahoning County.
