Luke List sets target at Honda Classic

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.

Luke List dropped only one shot in his 4-under 66 on a tough scoring day at the Honda Classic with a shrinking number of players under par.

Tiger Woods faced a blustery afternoon Friday at PGA National, and one look at the scores suggested it won’t be easy. Only three players from the morning side of the draw broke par, which made List’s round look even more impressive.

He was at 3-under 137, and only five other players were under par.

Defending champion Rickie Fowler had six bogeys in a seven-hole stretch and shot 77. He was virtually certain to miss the cut.

Rory McIlroy had a reasonable day except for one hole, the par-3 17th. He hit one in the water, one in the bunker and took triple bogey. McIlroy’s best shot was for par. His ball on No. 9, his final hole, was in a bunker level with his waste. He hit 8-iron around the palm trees to short of the green, and got up-and-down by making a 6-foot par putt for 72.

Webb Simpson, who shared the 18-hole lead with Alex Noren, made a double bogey with a wedge in his hand on the par-5 18th hole, and he finished his round with a birdie at No. 9 for a 72. He was one shot behind, along with past Honda Classic champions Russell Henley (70) and Rory Sabbatini (69).
