Boardman bands in winter concert

BOARDMAN

The winter concert of the Boardman bands will take place Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave. The concert will feature the wind ensemble, symphonic band, flute choir and percussion ensemble. Some smaller ensembles will perform in the lobby before the show.

Admission at the door is $3 ($2 for students, free for senior citizens).

The BHS wind ensemble will preview the tunes it will perform at the state competition March 9.

Upcycled Art call for entries

SHARON, PA.

Penn State Shenango is gearing up for its annual Upcycled Art Contest, which is held in conjunction with the campus’ Earth Day celebration April 7. The contest was designed to inspire elementary and middle school students to create treasure from trash.

There are two categories: small group and individual. Both are for grades kindergarten through six.

Both categories require the creation of a piece of artwork that uses only material that has been previously used and/or potentially destined for recycling for the land fill.

All artwork will be displayed at the Penn State Shenango Earth Fest in the campus art gallery located in lecture hall room 225.

All submissions must include a completed entry form, delivered with the students’ art project the week of March 19, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., in lecture hall room 225 located at 147 Shenango Ave. Pickup can be arranged upon request. All artwork must be picked back up April 7, between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
