Firefighters return to extinguish truck fire
WEATHERSFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Weathersfield and Austintown fire departments returned to the Petro Stopping Center truck stop on Salt Springs Road around 8 a.m. today to extinguish a small reignition of the fire that destroyed three semi tractor trailers at just after midnight today.
A worker with Clean Harbors Environmental Services discovered the fire while working nearby and reported it. The fire was in a rear tire on one of the trailers involved in the original fire.
21 WFMJ-TV, the Vindicator's broadcast partner, reported that firefighters were called to the truck stop at 12:15 a.m. and found three trucks on fire. There were no reported injuries, but the fire caused substantial damage to the trucks.
Trumbull County's Hazmat team was also called out to the scene to clean up about 400 gallons of diesel fuel that had spilled into the parking lot from the vehicles involved in the fire. The EPA was also notified of the spill.
