CHC kindergarten project aims to further student reading

« Canfield Neighbors

The C.H. Campbell kindergarten team is seeking to purchase books for use in guided reading. Funding for this project will allow them to enhance students’ reading instruction. These books would directly impact 90 kindergarten students annually.

CHC kindergartners participate in guided reading, which takes place when teachers meet with students in small groups.

Guided reading refers to the grade level expectations that are categorized in books from levels A to Z.

For example, kindergarten starts at level A and ends at D. However, because children progress at different rates, some excel beyond the grade level range. Guided reading “enables children to practice strategies with the teacher’s support.” Guided reading allows them to ensure student success and growth as readers.

Students who move through the grade levels will have a stronger foundation as a result of their kindergarten experience.

This fundraising project will run until May 26. So far, they have had 20 donors and are halfway to their goal.

They are seeking community support to reach it. The CHC kindergarten team thanks its donors, those who have already donated and those that are planning to donate, for their help in fulfilling this goal.
