The Canfield Presbyterian Church is hosting Celebration of Gifts Event: Silent Auction and Chili Cook-Off on Feb. 25. The Celebration of Gifts Silent Auction will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., with the Chili Cook-Off scheduled from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the church’s 2018 International Mission Trip with Foundation for Peace to Dominican Republic and Haiti. Seventeen youth and adult members of the church are participating in the trip scheduled for July 11-20.

With more than 70 auction items available to bid on, all are made by church members of friends of church members.

Auction items include Christmas tree decorating, pies, photographs, wood signs, guitar and ukulele lessons, lap quilts, cookies, wooden nativity wall art, yard work, moving help, paintings, babysitting, house cleaning, gutter cleaning, crocheted dolls, custom calligraphy, cheesecake, oil change, horseback riding lesson, duck decoy, handmade cards, jewelry, bread, golf outing and voice lessons.

“It’s amazing to see the generosity of folks to donate what they have. I’m just blown away by getting more than 70 items donated for the silent auction. We get to see how awesome this church is and what amazing skills our members have, as pretty much everything is made by our members. We are hoping the event is joyfully competitive,” said Rebecca Mattern, Canfield Presbyterian Church Director of Christian Education.

Bidding is open Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m.

The Chili Cook-Off is an annual event hosted at the church and is being tied into the silent auction this year.

“We wanted to tie it into the silent auction this year, so we can feed everyone and have fellowship through both events,” Mattern said.

Tickets for the Chili Cook-Off are $7 and can be purchased at the door.

Members of the mission trip team will visit Pendernales, D.R. and Haiti, the same area another mission trip group from the church visited in 2013.

“The church sent a group to Pendernales five years ago, and we are going to the same area. While there, we will work on the same school that group did, we will offer vacation bible school, host a medical clinic and work on a Haiti agricultural project. Three people from this year’s group went five years ago, and they will get to see some of the people from their first trip and reconnect with them. It’s going to be really neat for them to be able to see them again,” Mattern said.

The church will host two more fundraisers to benefit their 2018 International Mission Trip with Foundation for Peace to Dominican Republic and Haiti, including a Pancake Breakfast at 11 a.m. on March 25 and the annual Trash and Treasure Sale on April 28.
