ODOT working “around the clock” on potholes

An Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman said crews are working to fill potholes round the clock, and that included during the holiday Monday.

“We were off for the holiday, [but] we still had crews filling potholes,” said spokesman Brent Kovacs. “If it’s not snowing, we’re filling potholes.”

Last night, several cars pulled off the road by a large pothole near the Indianola Avenue exit on Interstate 680, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner WFMJ-TV.

The pothole opened up after the crews completed the day’s work on 680, Kovacs said. When ODOT received complaints, it sent another crew out to fill it about 9:30 p.m.

While the weather allows, Kovacs said crews will continue to fill potholes on both morning and afternoon shifts.

He estimated that ODOT crews would deploy 22 tons of patch material Wednesday in Mahoning County alone.

Kovacs advised motorists to slow down when they see caution lights and crews are on the road filling potholes.
