Drug arrests keep police busy over weekend

Police were kept busy over the weekend with several drug arrests, one of which also turned into an escape charge, according to reports.
Samantha Wayne, 32, of Campbell, was arrested about 12:50 a.m. Saturday after a car she was in was pulled over at Lansdowne Boulevard and Dale Avenue on the East Side for an improper turn, and police found a crack pipe where she sat along with some suspected crack cocaine.
Reports said the driver, Alexander Henry, 47, also had suspected crack cocaine, and both were arrested and taken to the Mahoning County jail. The jail refused to admit Wayne because a scanner detected she might have swallowed some drugs, so she was taken to the hospital.
About 3:45 a.m., police were notified her boyfriend, Raul Magallon, 42, of Girard, had picked her up after she called him. Police spotted his car on West Woodland Avenue on the South Side and pulled it over. Reports said Magallon told police Wayne never said she had a police hold on her at the hospital.
Wayne was taken back to the jail. A records check found Magallon has seven open suspensions on his license and a warrant from Campbell Municipal Court on a traffic charge.
He was turned over toCampbell police, reports said.
Also arrested on drug charges over the weekend were the following:
Katie Obstler, 43, a passenger in a car pulled over about 7:45 p.m. in the 700 block of East Philadelphia Avenue on the South Side for an improper turn.
Officers asked to search the car after they smelled marijuana inside, and the driver had a bag of suspected marijuana on him. Reports said officers then asked Obstler if they could search her, and she said she had $20 worth of methamphetamine.
She was arrested on a felony charge of possession of drugs.
On the way to the jail, reports said Obstler was kicking the cage inside the cruiser and cursing officers, saying she could not understand why she was arrested because she didn’t do anything wrong.
The driver, Louis Paloci, no age or address given, was cited for possession of marijuana and a traffic charge.
Zachary Yavorsky, 35, no address listed, and Ricky Thompson, 41, of Greenville, Pa., were arrested at 8:50 p.m. at West Evergreen Avenue and Summer Street on the South Side after a car Thompson was driving was pulled over for an improper turn.
Reports said Thompson agreed to allow officers to search him. When they did, they found a burnt spoon in his pants, and Thompson told police he had a syringe in his pants as well, reports said. He was arrested on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments.
Yavorsky had a bag of suspected heroin in his pockets when he was searched, and police also found two crack pipes on the seat where he was sitting, reports said.
He was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of heroin and possession of drug-abuse instruments.
John Vantassel, 61, of Vestal Road, was arrested late Friday on a charge of possession of cocaine after a traffic stop in the 1600 block of First Street on the West Side.
Reports said officers found a crack pipe in his sock and a bag of suspected crack cocaine in his pants pocket. He also has five open suspensions on his license, reports said.
