Belmont bats too much for YSU Baseball

NASHVILLE

A wild pitch and homerun were the difference in the Youngstown State baseball team’s 5-1 loss to Belmont on Saturday.

The Bruins (1-1) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after back-to-back RBI singles by Chas Hadden and Devon Gardner.

YSU (1-1) cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the sixth after Blaze Glenn drove in Zach Lopatka for his third RBI of the season.

But a homerun by Jordan Henshaw and a wild pitch by YSU’s Austin Butler led to a two-run seventh inning for Belmont.

The Penguins had a chance to start the season 2-0 first time since 2000.
