Grievance postponed

A Feb. 23 grievance hearing for fired Niles teacher Christopher Chieffo has been postponed until a referee can be assigned. The board of education unanimously voted to fire Chieffo, a teacher and former administrator, last month after he purportedly falsified sick leave to coach a Howland High School golf team at a tournament in Alliance. He is represented by the Niles Education Association and legal counsel.

Chieffo and his wife, who is also a Niles teacher, have filed a $4 million lawsuit against the board, Superintendent Ann Marie Thigpen and other administrators accusing them of defamation, fraud and civil conspiracy.
