Austintown Fitch High School celebrated Christmas with their “Five Days of Christmas“ spirit week from Dec. 18-22.
Students and staff throughout the school dress up according to the day’s theme. It gives the school a chance to have fun and celebrate the holidays together.
“With all the demands on students and educators, such as state testing, it’s nice to do something out of the ordinary,“ said principal Chris Berni. He also said that he looks at the school as a family and he families celebrate the holidays together.
The school began doing the spirit week in 2015. The conversation began in a TV production class that Lexi Cintron and Jordan Evans took as freshman in 2014. The class and students pushed to have the spirit week and the celebration started the following year.
“It gives something for everyone to participate in despite activities,“ said Evans, now a senior. Cintron, who has mentored incoming freshmen, explained that it helps them feel comfortable and involved. She said that all the students get to be silly together.
The week began with Polar Express Day, where the students came to school in the pajamas. Tuesday, the students and staff wore ugly sweaters. They imitated their favorite characters for “Christmas/Holiday Character Day“ on Wednesday. The school had a “Christmas Family Photo Day” on Thursday, where groups dressed in matching outfits. They finished the week off by dressing to celebrate the New Year.
