Distinguished Young Women scholarship program to be Feb. 25

Seventeen Ohio high school senior girls will arrive in Mount Vernon on Feb. 21, A welcome dinner with their host family is the beginning of a weekend filled with rehearsals, luncheons and time to make connections with other high school seniors from across the state.

‚ãThis year’s program celebrates Ohio’s 60th anniversary, with Mount Vernon serving as host city for 45 years. Cash scholarships of more than $16,000 will be awarded to the participants, with approximately $2 million in college scholarships also available. Serving as program emcees will be Dana Ullom-Vucelich and her daughter Jenna Vucelich, who are both past participants of the program.

The 60th annual Distinguished Young Women of Ohio program will begin with the curtain rising at 2 p.m. on Feb. 25. Tickets were available beginning Feb. 1 at www.MTVarts.com, or can be purchased at the door.

Founded in 1958 in Mobile, Alabama, Distinguished Young Women is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls. During its 60 years of operation, the program has provided life-changing experiences for more than 750,000 young women. Last year, Distinguished Young Women provided almost $1.5 billion in cash and college scholarship opportunities to program participants at the local, state and national level.

The mission of Distinguished Young Women is to positively impact the lives of young women by providing a transformative experience that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent.
