Board recommends permanent disbarment for Atty. John Large

The Ohio Board of Professional Conduct of the Ohio Supreme Court has recommended that John H. Large, a Warren attorney, be permanently disbarred.

Large was suspended from practicing law for one year in a 2009 disciplinary case stemming from his conviction in federal court for failing to file personal income tax returns and failing to timely report his employees’ wages to the IRS.

In a 2012 complaint, he was suspended for two years from practicing law with six months stayed, for rule violations involving clients.

Additional complaints were filed against Large in 2015, one of them relating to John Baryak of Newton Falls over Large’s handling of a civil matter involving two men who challenged Baryak’s eligibility to serve on Newton Falls Village Council.

Large successfully defended Baryak against a challenge by Werner Lange and Bruce Moore before the Trumbull County Board of Elections regarding Baryak’s eligibility to serve on Newton Falls Village Council.

Large then convinced Baryak to sue the two men for their actions in the elections issue, but he failed to carry out the duties associated with the lawsuit, the Board of Professional Conduct said.

A complaint also was filed against Large for not notifying a different client of a change in the date of her 2016 hearing and then not returning phone calls over the next several weeks. He also did not appear for a hearing several weeks later, the board said.

The board also recommends that Large repay Baryak the $2,500 Baryak paid for Large’s representation and other amounts charged to Baryak by a trial court for Large’s failures in the civil suit.

Large will have the chance to file objections to the board’s recommendations, and an oral argument could be held, the Supreme Court says. The Supreme Court makes the final decision on punishment.
