Students in the digital design and print program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will soon be able to obtain three PrintEd certifications after completing the two year program at the school.

PrintED, administered by the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF), is a national accreditation program based on industry standards, and appropriate for secondary studies or a direct pathway to advance in the workforce.

“The PrintEd certifications will open the door for countless opportunities for the students in the digital design and print program at MCCTC,” Mary Ann Thoburn, digital design and print instructor stated. “There are many more benefits of taking the program, including three Adobe certifications, scholarships for post secondary studies and a direct pathway to advance in the workforce.”

Thoburn had to apply for the PrintED certification and pass a facility inspection, which she passed.

“The representative that came out was extremely impressed with our digital design and print lab and program and stated that it ranked in the top five in the country of schools he has visited,” she said.

Along with Mary Ann Thoburn, Kathy Durany from Choffin Career and Technical Center will also be able to offer PrintED certifications. Mary Ann and Kathy collaborated on this process logging more than 85 hours over the summer working and preparing for the accreditation process.
