SPORTS DIGEST || Charles Wern Jr., 85; was Warren JFK coach

Attorney Charles Edward Wern, Jr., who coached baseball and softball at Warren JFK, died Tuesday. He was 85.

A 1950 graduate of Vienna High School, Wern played basketball and baseball at Duke University where he graduated in 1954.

He was a minority owner of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and his family hosted 18 players since the team was created in 1999.

Wern was an avid golfer and was co-chair of two LPGA Tournaments that were contested in Trumbull County.
