Mahoning County Grand Jury indicts 18


— A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday indicted 18 people, including an Outlook Avenue man accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death in Youngstown then driving to Niagara Falls, N.Y., with her body.

Jeshawn Elliott, 37, is accused of the homicide of Anvia Mickens, 28, who was found in the trunk of Elliot’s car on Aug. 9 in Niagara Falls.

Police say Mickens was killed in Youngstown and Elliot was tracked down after he was speaking to relatives on the phone, who in turn called police.

He spent several months in jail in New York before being extradited back to Youngstown in December. He is presently in the Mahoning County jail.

Also Thursday, the grand jury indicted four people who police said were involved in a home invasion last week in Austintown.

Indicted were Michael Doepker, 24, of North Kimberly Avenue; Noah Mathenty, 21, of New Road, both in Austintown; Mark A. Hernandez, 21, of Cambridge Avenue, Youngstown; and Luis Claudio, 21, of Chicago Avenue, also of Youngstown.

They all face charges of aggravated burglary, kidnapping, aggravated robbery with firearm and body armor specifications, being a felon in possession of a firearm and impersonating a peace officer or private police officer.

The four are accused of breaking into a home on Beverly Avenue in the early hours of Feb. 9 and holding the residents at gunpoint. Reports said they at first claimed to be police officers and they had body armor and assault weapons.

Doepker, Mathenty and Hernandez were all arrested a short time later not far from the home. Claudio remains at large.

William Brown, 25, South Bridge Street, Struthers, intimidation.

Gary Rider, 58, Sandgate Road, Madison, aggravated theft and petty theft.

Donte Spade, 19, Weston Avenue, receiving stolen properrty, contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a child and obstructing official business.

Nicole Carbone, 30, Sheridan Road, possession of cocaine.

Keith Wade Jr., 28, Wellington Avenue, possession of cocaine and possession of drugs.

Justin Winans, 35, Willis Avenue, possession of heroin and possessing drug abuse instruments.

Altay Baker, 20, Crandall Avenue, tampering with evidence, aggravated possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jason Rotan, 40, Shirley Road, breaking and entering.

Alan Jordan, 29, East Judson Avenue, possession of cocaine.

Dashawn Hayden, aka Deshawn Hayden, 42, East Boston Avenue, possession of cocaine, aggravated possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Phillip Howells, 60, Chattanoga Avenue, possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, two counts of possession of dangerous drugs. aggravated possession of drugs, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia with forfeiture specifications.

Rodney McMEans, 23, Bessemer Avenue, improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and carrying concealed weapons.

Kayan Muhammad, 20, Midland Avenuem, possession of cocaine and aggravated possession of drugs.

Hector Torres Jr., 35, Misty Woods Court, Struthers, vehicular assault.
