Bestiality law passed

STRUTHERS

Struthers City Council passed ordinances during Wednesday’s meeting establishing laws against sexual conduct with animals as well as establishing a probate fund and a probation officer for the court.

Law Director John Zomoida said the bestiality legislation was requested by the police department in response to a recent juvenile case. He said the city’s ordinance closely mirrors state law on the issue.

Struthers Municipal Court Judge Dominic Leone said that establishing a probation fund and creating an official probation officer is the first step toward broader changes in the court, such as implementing video arraignments and creating special dockets, such as drug and veterans courts.
