Liberty woman faces charges after attack on boyfriend

A township woman is charged with felonious assault after police said she attacked her boyfriend with a folding knife Saturday.

Janae Cox, 20, also faces misdemeanor charges of criminal damaging and domestic violence, according to the police report.

She was arraigned Monday in Girard Municipal Court. Judge Jeffrey Adler set her bond at $50,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Wednesday. She is in the Trumbull County jail.

According to police, the woman’s boyfriend told police they had been fighting over a text message before the incident after he called her an expletive.

When she came to their Roosevelt Drive apartment, where the boyfriend was sitting with a neighbor, they continued arguing and Cox punched her boyfriend in the face, the report said.

Then, the report said, Cox threatened she was going to stab him and took a folding knife and tried to slash her boyfriend across the chest, which tore his clothes but not his skin.

The boyfriend pushed Cox out of the apartment. Police said, however, she broke into the apartment in the middle of the night to grab her things. Police found Cox, who said her boyfriend was abusive and she wasn’t going to take it anymore, the report said.
