Vindicator nominated for 16 Associated Press awards

The Vindicator has been nominated for 16 awards in the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors’ 2017 newspaper contest.

Sixty-four daily newspapers submitted 1,922 entries in the contest, which featured news and sports stories, features, editorials, columns, graphics and photos from 2017.

The Vindicator competed in Division IV, which includes newspapers with a daily circulation of 19,000 to 59,999.

Matt Arnold, assistant design copy chief, is nominated for best headline writer.

Graig Graziosi, staff writer, is nominated for best business writer.

Bertram de Souza, editorial page editor, is nominated for best columnist and best editorial writer.

Robert McFerren, graphic arts director, is nominated for best graphics artist, best full page design and best illustration or informational graphic.

Brian Dzenis, sports writer, is nominated for best sports enterprise story.

Nikos Frazier, staff photographer, is nominated for best feature photo.

Bill Lewis, staff photographer, is also nominated for best feature photo as well as best sports photo.

Jordyn Grzelewski, staff writer, is nominated for best public service and best explanatory reporting.

Joe Gorman, police reporter, is nominated for best spot news coverage.

Kalea Hall, business writer, and Bill Alcorn, staff writer, were nominated for best enterprise reporting.

Amanda Tonoli, education reporter, is nominated for best investigative reporting.

Winners of the awards, as well as the recipients of the general excellence, rising star and first amendment awards will be announced March 24 at an awards banquet in Columbus.
