A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Feb. 4

Possible child endangerment: A doctor at a Youngstown hospital reported a 2-year-old child had what he felt was a fresh bruise on his face after the boy’s mother, of Hubbard, had picked up her son and noticed the same, which reportedly prompted her to bring the child to the hospital to be checked. Trumbull County Children Services Board was notified, a police report said.

Arrest: Police answered a call about someone passed out in a car on West Liberty Street before charging Kendrick C. Cartlidge, 28, with operating a vehicle impaired. The Rolling Fork, Miss., man had a 0.262 blood-alcohol content, which is more than three times Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report stated.

Feb. 5

Arrest: While responding to a report of a car in a ditch with possible injuries in the 7600 block of East Liberty Street, authorities charged Brandi L. Vaughn, 38, of Spearman Avenue, Farrell, Pa., with operating a vehicle impaired and driving under suspension. Vaughn registered a 0.196 blood-alcohol content, a report showed.

Incident: An official with Hubbard High School, 350 Hall Ave., told an officer a student had found a 12-gauge shotgun shell on the floor of a locker room before police disposed of the shell.

LIBERTY

Feb. 2

Arrest: After stopping his vehicle on Green Acres Drive, authorities took Mohammad H. Mataria, 43, into custody. Mataria, of Georgetown Road, Sharpsville, Pa., was wanted on an outstanding warrant charging aggravated menacing.

Feb. 3

Aggravated menacing: An irate customer reportedly called and threatened a Belmont Avenue jewelry store after having not received the price he wanted while trying to sell gift cards.

Weapon: A traffic stop in the 30 block of Goldie Road resulted in the arrest of Anthony L. Masters, 51, of West Third Street, Niles, on a charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. Masters had a loaded 9 mm firearm and a concealed-carry permit, but failed to notify an officer about the gun, a report showed.

Feb. 4

Drugs: Desmon R. Parish, 27, of McKinley Road, Warren, was charged with having a small bag of suspected marijuana in his car after police had pulled him over in the 1000 block of Gypsy Lane.

Theft: The rear license plate was removed from a vehicle on Richards Drive.

Theft: A woman alleged her daughter’s boyfriend took $80 from the accuser’s Keefer Road home.

Feb. 5

Menacing: An official with E.J. Blott Elementary School, 4003 Shady Road, alleged a student’s irate parent yelled profanities at and made veiled threats against him after the official forbade the student from participating in a playoff basketball game, presumably after he had violated school rules.

Feb. 6

Arrest: Police responded to a disabled vehicle on Belmont Avenue, where they took Dwaylin M. Jenkins of Park Avenue, Youngstown, into custody. Jenkins, 38, was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft: Someone removed 10 heavy-duty batteries from several dump trucks that belong to DelliQuadri Lawn Maintenance & Landscaping Contractors, 1270 Trumbull Ave. The loss was calculated at $2,500.

Feb. 7

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 4400 block of Logan Way resulted in the arrest of Dre L. Kelley, 22, of Madison Road, Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse and possessing criminal tools when, authorities alleged, a bag containing powdered cocaine, two bags of suspected marijuana and a digital scale were found. Kelley also was wanted on a Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department felony warrant charging him with mishandling a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Identity theft: A Green Acres Drive woman discovered someone without authorization had used her Social Security number to file an income-tax form.

GIRARD

Feb. 2

Assault: A man reportedly admitted hitting another man’s face multiple times after the victim apparently had forced his way into a residence in the 40 block of East Broadway Avenue.

Assault: A woman alleged another woman spit on her after having parked her car too close to the accuser’s in the 800 block of North State Street, and after accidentally striking the victim’s vehicle with the second woman’s door.

Feb. 3

Drug paraphernalia: After pulling over a vehicle on St. Clair Avenue, officers charged James J. DePizzo, 48, of North St. Clair, Girard, with possessing drug paraphernalia. DePizzo, who also was wanted on a Weathersfield Township warrant charging larceny, had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe in his shoe, police alleged.

Theft: A wireless headset, $46 and three other small items were taken from a car in the 1000 block of North Ward Avenue.

Theft: A total of about $5 in change was removed from two vehicles in the 200 block of Smithsonian Avenue.

Feb. 5

Attempted theft: Two men reportedly tried to steal Bluetooth speakers from Family Dollar, 910 N. State St.

Theft: An East Broadway Avenue man discovered about 90 over-the-counter pills and $170 missing from his car.

Forgery: A Trumbull Avenue man reported never getting a $270 unemployment check before learning the check evidently had been sent and cashed.

Theft/criminal mischief: A Townsend Avenue man realized someone had entered his vehicle, damaged a touch-screen radio and took items that included a pair of sunglasses and several small tools. The theft and damage came to $3,390.

Trespassing: Police filed criminal-trespassing charges against Annberlynn M. Vaughn, 23, of Evaline Street, Warren; Dylan M. Botzenhart, 23, of East Broadway Avenue, Girard; and David J. Shields, 27, of South Davis Street, Girard, after an officer on patrol reported having seen a van on private property in the 1000 block of North State Street. Vaughn, Botzenhart and Shields were behind a fenced-in area off limits to the public, a report said.

Feb. 6

Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol pulled over Lyric L. Hughes of Euclid Avenue, Sharon, Pa., who was wanted on a falsification charge. Hughes, 22, provided false information while in Girard Municipal Court, police alleged.

Drugs: Authorities responding to a vehicular accident in the 600 block of Trumbull Avenue charged Sydney M. Maras, 18, of state Route 305, Fowler, with possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia after alleging having found two digital scales, a bag of suspected marijuana, three pieces of suspected marijuana, a suspected marijuana pipe and a device commonly used to grind marijuana. Also facing drug-related charges was a 17-year-old Vienna girl.

Feb. 7

Identity fraud: A Park Avenue man learned that his personal information had been stolen then used in an effort to open a credit-card account.

Domestic violence: Charles E. Maurer, 44, of Church Hill Road, Girard, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged that during an argument, Maurer threw a pack of cigarettes and struck her face.
