CHICAGO

Senior Cameron Morse scored 26 points,tied a career high with six 3-pointers and moved into seventh-place on all-time scoring list with 1,801 points, but the Youngstown State men’s basketball team fell to UIC, 100-75 on Thursday night at UIC Pavilion.

The Penguins fall to 6-20 overall and 4-9 in Horizon League play. The Flames won their seventh straight and improve to 15-11 overall and 10-3 in the league.

Morse, who connected on 8 of 15 shots from the floor, became just the seventh player in school history to score at least 1,800 points in a career. He also dished out five assists and moved into a tie for eighth-place on the YSU career assists chart with Francisco Santiago with 306 assists.

Sophomore Braun Hartfield posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Leading the Flames was Dikembe Dixson with 22 points while Marcus Ottey scored 19 points. Tai Odiase had 16 points with six blocks and Dominique Matthews posted 14 points.

UIC used a 14-7 run late in the first half to turn a six-point lead, 33-27, into a 13-point halftime advantage, 47-34. In the second half, the Flames shot 58.1 percent from the floor while the Penguins connected on just 40 percent of their shots after halftime.

The Penguins outrebounded the Flames 45-38 and had 23 offensive rebounds, but could only convert 14 second-chance points.

YSU visits IUPUI on Saturday at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
