Second-grade students in Crystal Schneider’s class at C.H. Campbell Elementary School received a special holiday visit from Canfield School Board member Barry Tancer on Dec. 18.

Tancer instructed the children on how to build mini wooden gingerbread house ornaments using math skills, giving them step-by-step directions.

“This is really neat as they are learning about holidays around the world and the gingerbread house originated in Germany. They will also be using math skills when measuring and building,” Schneider said.

The students built, painted and then decorated their ornaments to take home as a holiday surprise.

“It was so nice of Mr. Tancer to offer to come in and help the students build these gingerbread house ornaments. They don’t get to do many projects like this, working with their hands. They are really engaged in this project,” Schneider said.
