A man wanted by the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force and Campbell and Struthers police in connection with two armed robberies in those cities surrendered Thursday afternoon at the Mahoning County jail.

The suspect, Luis Mateo IV, 19, is scheduled to be arraigned in Struthers Municipal Court at 9:30 a.m. today on a charge of aggravated robbery, jail officials said.

Warrants from Campbell and Struthers led to a search by the task force and local police for Mateo, whom they described as armed and dangerous.

Mateo reportedly went to school in Struthers and has family in Campbell.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, U.S. Marshals said Mateo was armed with a gun during the robberies and told victims he would use it.

It was also reported Mateo posed on social media with a handful of cash he said got in one of the robberies, both of which occurred Jan. 20 within about 30 minutes of each other.

There were two aggravated-robbery warrants for Mateo’s arrest, one investigated by Struthers police and the other by Campbell law-enforcement officers.

Campbell police said Mateo is someone they have “had on their radar” for several weeks.
