Adding 3 patrol officers

The Warren Police Department will be adding three patrol officers to the department next week but will need another entry-level police officer test in the coming months to add seven more.

The department has 59 officers, but is trying to get to 70, Police Chief Eric Merkel said during a Warren Civil Service Commission meeting this week.

Pastor Todd Johnson, a commission member, said he will try to organize an event to encourage more people to consider a career in law enforcement before the next test is given. He organized a successful event to encourage people to apply for entry-level firefighter positions last year.
