For the first time since James Cameron’s 1998 disaster epic, a December release has topped the weekend box office in February. Seven weeks after first opening in theaters, Sony Pictures’ “Jumanji” again took the top spot at the North American box office with an estimated $11 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.

On a sluggish Super Bowl weekend, that was good enough to surpass last week’s No. 1 film, “Maze Runner: The Death Cure,” coming in the No. 2 sport. The third installment in the YA trilogy slid 58 percent in its second week with $10.2 million in ticket sales.

Rounding out the top five are: “Winchester,” $9.3 million, third; “The Greatest Showman,” $7.8 million, fourth; and “Hostiles,” $5.5 million, fifth.

Kylie Jenner announces birth of baby girl

After months of speculation that she was pregnant with her first child, Kylie Jenner has announced the birth of a baby girl.

In an Instagram post Sunday, Jenner says the baby was born Thursday. It’s the first child for the 20-year-old reality TV star and 25-year-old rapper Travis Scott.

In her post, Jenner apologizes for keeping fans “in the dark through all the assumptions.” She says she chose to keep her pregnancy private.

Jenner says her daughter is healthy and beautiful. She posted a video on her app with a message stating her daughter was born Thursday afternoon and weighed 8 pounds and 9 ounces. The post did not reveal her daughter’s name.

Police: Man threatened to kidnap singer Del Rey

ORLANDO, FLA.

A Florida man is in jail after purportedly threatening to kidnap pop singer Lana Del Rey before a concert.

Orlando police said officers arrested 43-year-old Michael Shawn Hunt of Riverview on Friday outside the Amway Center where Del Rey was performing. Authorities had received a tip about Hunt making a possible kidnapping threat to the singer, whose real name is Elizabeth Grant.

Hunt was held Sunday without bail on charges of attempted kidnapping with a weapon and aggravated stalking with a credible threat.
