Utility scam theft
BROOKFIELD
Police are looking for two men who posed as electrical utility workers to trick an elderly Brookfield woman to get into her home in the 7000 block of Stewart-Sharon Road on Friday to steal valuables.
The thieves told the victim they were working on a nearby street and said her power might be affected. They asked her to go into the basement with them to check the home’s breaker box, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
The thieves asked the victim to turn off a breaker while they went outside to check something. She told police she remained in the basement for some time before noticing a vehicle pulling out of her driveway.
