Youngstown Marathon Foundation Board recently selected United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley and Youngstown CityScape as its 2018 charitable beneficiaries.

United Way of Youngs-town and the Mahoning Valley aims to create positive change by collaborating with partners to educate and empower children and families in the Mahoning Valley.

“We are extremely honored and grateful to be chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the Youngstown Marathon,” said Bob Hannon, president of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valey.

Youngstown CityScape is a nonprofit community development organization dedicated to the revitalization of the greater downtown Youngstown area.

Sharon Letson, executive director of Youngstown CityScape said, “We are thrilled to be the recipient of this year’s Youngstown Marathon Foundation race proceeds, which will support our Wick Park running trail improvement project.”

The board chose the two charities that it “felt best embody the Youngstown Marathon mission to spread health, wellness, and community throughout the Valley,” said Courtney Poullas, chief executive officer and race director.

In addition to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley and Youngstown CityScape, the board will request voting on behalf of the community to choose a third beneficiary.

The second running of the Youngstown marathon, half marathon and 5K , will take place at 7 a.m. June 3 and begins and ends near Second Sole in Boardman. The race is sponsored by Chemical Bank, Mercy Health Youngstown and Second Sole. For information, visit youngstownmarathon.com.
