Students study earthquakes
CAMPBELL
The students in Chelsea Glosser's eighth-grade science class are learning about earthquakes in a new way. Glosser assumed the role of news anchor as her students took turns “calling in” as witnesses of an earthquake. Students then identified the observations they saw in each newscast and the intensity of the earthquake using the Mercalli Scale, which uses key responses as indicators of intensity, such as furniture moving, walls shaking, and home destruction. The scale is comprised of different levels signified by Roman numerals ranging from I (not felt) to X (extreme).
