Scouts to begin celebration of 108th anniversary of service to America’s youth

Scout Sunday, which will take place Sunday, begins the celebration of the 108th anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America. In a weeklong celebration, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts throughout the world will recognize this event with Scout Sunday and Scout Sabbath ceremonies as well as other activities during the month, such as Cub Scout Blue and Gold banquets and Boy Scout Courts of Honor.

The purpose of Boy Scouts is to promote, through organization and cooperation with other agencies, the ability of boys to do things for themselves and others, to train them in scoutcraft, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance and kindred virtues.

Scouts learn why it’s important to be of service to others, how to lead and how to be strong contributors to their communities. The Scout Oath and Scout Law guide them to grow up to be young men of good character, help them meet the challenges of an ever-changing society and serve as role models for others.

Scouting has expanded beyond its outdoor adventures to introduce young people to promising careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
