Dog abandoned and locked away in New Castle apartment
Staff report
NEW CASTLE, PA.
New Castle police are trying to determine how long a dog had been left alone in a vacant apartment without food or water when authorities found it while investigating a burglary report Friday at Westview Terrace. The dog was locked in an upstairs bedroom of a vacant apartment, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner. According to a post on the police department’s Facebook page, officers believe the dog was left for an extended period of time, based on its severely malnourished condition.
Officers took it to the police department where they gave it water and a small amount of food. It has been turned over to the Lawrence County Humane Society and will receive veterinary care.
Investigators are hunting for the apartment’s previous tenant, who could face criminal charges, and are hoping someone will adopt the dog.
