Tanker leaks tar in Hubbard

HUBBARD

Crews worked for several hours to contain tar that was leaking from a tanker after a minor collision behind the Love’s gas station on North Main Street just after 6 a.m. Thursday.

Officials were unsure if the tanker ran into another vehicle or if the tanker was struck, but the temperature gauge on top of the tanker fell off from the collision and ruptured the side of the tanker, causing a massive leak.

A hazardous materials team, the Eagle Joint Fire Department, the Hubbard Road Department, the Environmental Protection Agency and township police were on the scene.

Assistant fire Chief Kent Kelley said roughly 2,000 gallons of the tar-like substance may have leaked from the tanker.
