ASSOCIATIONS

American Association of University Women, Youngstown Branch, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Poland Library, 311 S. Main St. Mary Adams, a retired Youngstown City Schools art teacher will present “We have Poipus” puppets, a drug and violence prevention program for children. CLUBS

The Altrusa Club of Youngstown will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Poland Library. The meeting will be roundtable discussions on the club hosting the 2020 District Five Conference. Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club will meet at 7 p.m. Saturday at Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive. The club is looking for new members. The 40th Annual Cars in the Park in Boardman will take place Aug. 5. Events the club participates in are Tuesday Night Cruises at the Austintown Senior Center, St. Patrick’s Day, the Memorial Day and 4th of July parades, car tours and more. DANCES

The Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Gene Hammond will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will be calling line dances. Valentines will be the theme for the dance. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual and light refreshments will be served. Warren Women’s Connection, an affiliate of Stonecroft Ministries, will host a luncheon entitled “The Heart of It All,” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Dilucia’s Banquet Center, 2610 Elm Road NE. Donna Hewitt will be the special feature and Delores Mitson will speak on the topic of “The Merry-Go-of Life-Are You Dizzy?” First time visitors pay $10 and all others pay $13. Stonecroft Ministries is a nondenominational organization that reaches out to all women across the country and around the world. Luncheons are held the second Monday of each month at a cost of $13. The support group was formed to reach out to help families who have lost loved ones to alcohol or substance abuse.

Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation is sponsoring a grief support group to help people move beyond the pain of any loss and achieve healing. Each meeting is facilitated by certified grief recovery specialists and is free of charge. Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman, will host a 13-week grief support series through the GriefShare ministry from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays through May 1. The GriefShare team provides a safe, understanding place for individuals to move through their personal grief journeys. Participants need not be church members. Each session is self-contained, so participants may enter at any session. Each session will include videos featuring some of the nation’s foremost experts on grief recovery. Sessions also include small group support and a workbook for personal study. Participants are welcome to share stories, but are never forced. Attendance at consecutive sessions is encouraged for maximum benefit. Cost is $20. Checks should be made payable to Good Hope. Scholarships also are available at registration.
