Naked Trees Hike
When: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.
What: The trees might be bare, but you can still tell who’s there. Come out and join naturalist Arika Preas on a brisk hike through the park and learn how you can identify trees even when there are no leaves.
Where: East Golf Hike Bike Trail, golf overflow parking lot, West Golf Drive, Boardman.
Cost: Free

Children’s Nature Hour
When: Next Thursday, 10-11a.m.
What: Join us as we read “No Two Alike” by Keith Baker and discover snowflakes are similar but no two are exactly alike – just like birds, trees, forests, and people.
Where: Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.
Cost: $4 for Mahoning County residents, $6 NR.
Details: Age 3 to 5 plus adult. Dress for the weather. Register/pay at Ford Nature Center by Monday.

Jewels of Winter
When: Tuesday-March 11, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
What: Find the spirit of the tropics within the comfort of the Davis Center as you observe orchids, the jewels of the plant world, on display.

Men’s Garden Club Talks
When: Wednesday, 7-8 p.m.
What: The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown invites you to attend their general meeting which includes topics by local and regional speakers on horticulture and nature. This week, Sarah Woodall will talk about oak wilt, a devastating disease that can easily kill members of the red oak family.

Mother/Son Game Night
When: Feb. 10, 5-7 p.m.
What: Boys and their favorite “mother figure” (mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, guardian) are invited to enjoy a family friendly fun evening of board games, hot chocolate and snacks.
Where: Birch Hill Cabin at the end of McCollum Road, Youngstown.
Cost: $3 for Mahoning County residents, $5 NR.
Details: Every boy must have a “mother figure” present. Register/pay at Ford Nature Center by next Thursday. All ages welcome. A variety of family style board games will be provided for all skill levels.
