That’s what Youngstown State Univrsity student Morgan Brandt and some of her communications classmates are calling their volunteer care package project intended to brighten the holidays for soldiers serving overseas.
They wanted to send something special from home.
Morgan, who graduated from Boardman High School in 2017, thought they could do so much more with a little help from her alma mater. She reached out to Boardman Local Schools, who in turn let principals know about the plan to send handmade cards and letters to military men and women who would not be home for the holidays.
In just a few days, brightly colored cards from the elementary schools mingled with sketches and letters from middle schoolers came from the classes. The messages included hopes for happy futures and remarks of appreciation. High school English classes sent longer handwritten letters to soldiers with encouragement and gratitude as the recurring themes.
Morgan said she was excited to see so many cards and letters. She delivered them to the Blue Star Mothers of America organization to be distributed before the New Year.
