The creative arts and design students from the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center partnered with Stone Fruit Coffee to host a Caffeinate and Paint event in the Joyce Brooks Center at MCCTC on Dec. 5.
According to senior Jessica Arnott, president of the creative arts and design class, the event is a fundraiser and is offered seasonally.
“This is a fundraiser for our class to use for field trips and other things, such as donating to a local cause. We hold the events seasonally, so we usually have a winter one, a spring one and a summer one,” Arnott said.
According to creative arts and design teacher Melissa Hackett, the students use the skills they learn in class to organize and execute the event.
“The kids use the skills they have learned in class to organize and execute this event. They do all the advertising, all the flyers and all the instruction for the actual painting. They also walk around and offer any help and tips to the participants. They are completely in charge. They will also choose an organization or cause to donate to with proceeds from tonight. They are using their talents, and showing their talents, to benefit others,” Hackett said.
Hackett also said the students chose the painting for the evening.
“The kids choose the painting they will teach the participants. They chose a winter scene for this event, instead of a Christmas scene, to be able to include everyone and for the participants to be able to enjoy their work longer than just the Christmas season,” Hackett said.
Stone Fruit Coffee provided the caffeine for the event.
“Stone Fruit, and actually all the other coffee houses we have partnered with, has been very generous with us, which we greatly appreciate. Many of our students work at Stone Fruit, so it’s nice to have that connection in the community,” Hackett said.
The MCCTC Culinary Department also provided pastries for the evening.
