Austintown Middle School hosted their annual school-wide spelling bee on Dec. 6.
The competition took place in the school’s cafetorium in the morning, with students in sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grades competing against each other for overall winner.
Eighth-grade winners included Hollie Kopnisky in second place, Apryl Soleman in third place and Makenna Fink in first place.
Seventh-grade winners included Ciara Stewart in third place, Emily Beany in second place and Hunter Barnett in first place.
Sixth-grade winners were Matt Smith in third place, Alyana Christman in second place and Kelley Nemes in first place.
The overall Spelling Bee winner was eighth-grader Hailey Piersant.
Piersant will advance to the Vindicator Regional Spelling Bee, which will take place at Youngstown State University on March 16.
