Coaches deserve support, respect

FANFARE:

Your two articles (Dec. 16) regarding parental interference in sports were spot on, highlighting a daunting problem that today’s coaches encounter.

My children and grandchildren have played many sports, from track to baseball, including college football and junior hockey. I have attended most games, often altering my work schedule to cheer them on. Many times I have said to my husband, “Neil should play center,” “Bryce should be on offense,” etc. ... because I think I know my child/grandchildren’s capabilities.

But the coach sees that child practicing on a daily basis, and does know his/her capability! It’s just a matter of respecting the person in charge!

The coaches in my family (daughter, son-in-law, grandsons, brothers) have endured unbelievable criticism for their decisions, even when the team was undefeated! Parents today need to encourage their children to strive for their personal best as a team player, emphasizing positive plays. Leave the coach alone! Shut up and enjoy the game!
