Boardman Park hosted their 15th annual Supper with Santa event at the Lariccia Family Community Center.

Karen McCallum, the recreation director of the park, organized the event.

“It’s a holiday tradition for many families,” McCallum said. “It’s just another reason for the season.”

The event was two nights with preregistration required.

Both nights saw a turn-out of around 100 people, which meant about 30 families, with both nights selling out.

“We had a couple of families here last night that this is what they do every year. It’s just a fun celebration of the season,” McCallum said.

Santa Claus made an appearance at the event, with a professional photographer available to take photos.

Children were also able to do a variety of arts and crafts projects all supplies provided by the park.

McCallum said that volunteers from Boardman Park’s Emerging Leaders group helped during the event. Students such as Emily Maroni and Jessica Winsen were present, helping children and their families with crafts.

“It’s cute and we have a lot of fun,” Winsen said.

Along with crafts, there was a fake snow area for children to play in, as well as a reading station full of holiday books.

Children were also able to write their letters to Santa while he was present at the event.

“It’s a lot of fun to see their faces and how hard they work on their letters,” McCallum said.

New this year, Armstrong provided free light up antlers for children who attended the event with their families.

Supper was cooked by McCallum, which families could enjoy while they watched the movie “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” McCallum prepared her famous homemade macaroni and cheese for the event, along with chicken nuggets and a variety of other food and desserts.

“They enjoy the homemade mac and cheese, I get that all of the time,” McCallum said. “That’s why my mac and cheese is known.”

McCallum said that while coming to and leaving from the event families were able to enjoy the park’s holiday light display.

The lights, which are synced to music, will be on display until Jan. 6.
