Big Brothers Big Sisters will host a “Jingle Bell Calendar Raffle” fundraiser during December. All participants who donate $10 will be eligible to win $50 per day in December based on the 3-digit Pennsylvania evening drawing. The prize is $500 on Dec. 31. Salem Historical Society is using the theme “Made in Salem” for the annual Salem community calendar. This edition of the calendar features all photographs in full color. Mullins Manufacturing Co., Grove Chewing Gum, songwriter Brooks Bowman, The Farm and Dairy, nationally recognized artist Charles Burchfield, Theiss Aviation, The Quaker Mule Tractor, the baskets of Strotter Brown, Deming Pumps, Ella Thea Smith-Cox “Exploring Biology” book, Wirsching Organ Company, Woodruff Stove Company, and Salem China are being featured. Threshold Residential Services Inc. will host a raffle drawing/fundraiser at 3 p.m. Friday at East Palestine Corner Store, 110 N. Market St., East Palestine. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Prizes include a wooden, hand-crafted 48 cup Keurig cup storage containers made by Hardway Home and an Amish-made oak child’s desk made by Carlisle Oak. Maximum of 300 tickets will be sold. Proceeds will benefit Threshold Residential Services programs for developmentally disabled individuals. SPECIAL EVENTS

Boardman Spartan Holiday Shootout youth basketball tournament for the fourth, fifth and sixth-grade boys divisions will take place Dec. 26 through 28 in the Glenwood Middle School Gymnasium, 7635 Glenwood Ave. It will begin at noon Wednesday and Thursday and at 9 a.m. Friday. The event includes a four-game guarantee in shootout format, 25-minute running clock. Awards will be given for first- and second-place in each division. Entry fee is $160 per team. Canfield High School Swim & Dive Team will host its annual Pancake Breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 6, in the high school cafeteria, 100 Cardinal Drive. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or from any CHS swimmer, diver or booster parents. Cost is $6.50 for adults, $4 for children. Takeout breakfasts also are available for purchase. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice. Proceeds support coach salaries, pool rental fees, meet entry fees, equipment, team suits, the team banquet and awards, after meet meals and special busing to the NEAC championship meet.

Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, will host “Rave in the Waves,” a glow stick pool party, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday in the indoor pool. There will be music, games and light refreshments for children of all ages. The event is open to the public and free for members. The cost is $5 for nonmembers. Rotary Club of Youngstown will host the Groundhog Day Craft Beerfest from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 2, 2019, at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Local, regional and national brewers will participate in the event, which will raise funds that allow Youngstown Rotary to support local organizations.
