LORDSTOWN IMPACT | Mercy Health puts Niles facility on hold

WARREN — Because of the news about the closing of the GM Lordstown assembly plant in March, Mercy Health has put a “hold” on the possibility of building a new hospital in the proposed Cafaro Co. Enterprise Park development just north of the Eastwood Mall.

“The recent news of GM Lordstown has shaken our community, and as an organization our thoughts are with those families directly working for General Motors and those working for GM suppliers,” a statement from Mercy Health this morning says.

The “economic uncertainty” caused by the GM announcement has prompted Mercy Health to put plans on hold, “including one in the size and scope of a new hospital,” Mercy Health said.

The statement adds that Merc yHealth remains “focused on caring for our patients and extending our healing those who need us most.”
