Students to GM: Save the Lordstown assembly plant
LORDSTOWN Dave Green, president of United Auto Workers Union Local 1112 at General Motors Lordstown, sent about 1,000 letters and drawings from local schoolchildren Monday to Mary Barra, GM CEO. Among the letters was this one from Jade Shattuck, a seventh-grader at Hubbard Middle School: “I ... wish you guys would stay open because it’s the holiday, and I don’t want any kids to not get any presents for Christmas.”
South Range shoots down Wildcats
STRUTHERS Bri Modic believes she has to take on an expanded role within the South Range girls basketball team. Modic stepped into that role quite well in leading the Raiders to an 83-68 victory at Struthers in Northeast 8 action on Monday night. Modic tallied 23 points – 15 from beyond the arc – in a Raiders’ offense that didn’t appear to be able miss.
Jack Loew's boxing shows success
By GREG GULAS sports@vindy.com NORTH LIMA For the past 30 years, local boxing trainer and promoter Jack Loew has staged a multitude of amateur and pro-am shows that attracted overflow audiences. During the Curbstone Coaches’ weekly meeting at Avion Banquet Center, he said his three shows this year were each well-received while his pro-am card featuring Popo Salinas last March’s was his best-ever, attendance-wise.
Austintown schoolchildren host Christmas concert

It was the first of a three-day series of choir concerts. The other concerts will be from 9:15 to 10 a.m. today and Wednesday. It is open to parents and one special person per child.
