Rappach, Tinkey lead Raiders over Princes

Howland graduate Tori Rappach scored 15 points and Canfield graduate Rachel Tinkey added eight as the Mount Union women’s basketball team defeated Heidelberg (4-5, 1-3 Ohio Athletic Conference) Saturday to remain undefeated at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Rappach led the Purple Raiders (8-1, 3-1 OAC) in scoring. She was accompanied by sophomore forward Sarah Hessel who recorded a career-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Heidelberg was led by Brooke Beamer’s 15 points.
Tinkey got the Raiders on the board with a pair of free throws and then a three to cut the Student Princes’ lead to 9-5 with 6:41 to go. Heidelberg started to extend their lead until a pair of deep three’s by Rappach closed out the quarter with Mount Union trailing 20-16.
Mount Union outscored Heidelberg 25-12 in the second quarter. A driving layup by Hannah Schaefer gave the Raiders their first lead of the game, 25-23. Mount Union went on a 16-9 run to enter the break ahead 41-32.
Mount Union will travel to Berea to face Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
