What: Stop by Ford Nature Center to chat with a naturalist and learn about seasonal and phenological happenings at Mill Creek MetroParks.

Bird Count 2018

When: Today, 9 to 11a.m.

What: The Great Christmas Bird Count is a century-old tradition taking place from the Arctic Circle to the tip of South America. You can participate this year at Mill Creek Park. We will start at Ford Nature Center and then will work our way over to the Lily Pond. Moderate, 2 miles.

Where: Ford Nature Center.

Cost: Free

Bird Banding

When: Sunday, 10 a.m. to noon

What: See live songbirds and science in action during a bird banding demonstration with licensed bird bander Al Eibel. Banding takes place inside the Visitors Center on the designated dates and times. Bird banding is canceled in the event of rain, snow or temperatures below 20 degrees.

Wetland Wonderland

When: Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

What: Walking in a wetland wonderland. Moderate, 2 miles.

Where: Newport Wetlands, West Newport Drive, Boardman.

Winter Night Hike

When: Dec. 22, 7 to 9 p.m.

What: Celebrate one of the longest nights of the year and escape the noise and stress of the holidays by joining us for a quiet walk through the woods under a full moon. A self-guided luminary walk and a guided night hike are available to participants of all ages. Upon return to the Visitor’s Center, warm up with hot beverages and a fire. Register by Friday.

Recreational Hike

When: Wednesday, 9 a.m.

What: Join our volunteer-led recreational hike and walk at your own pace. Moderate, 2 or 4 miles.

Men’s Garden Club

When: Feb. 16, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What: A gardening potpourri will feature a mix of gardening topics during this annual event. Scott Zanon, Irvin Etienne and Louis Raymond are the speakers.
