Members of the Boardman Glenwood Junior High School band were selected to perform with the District 5 Honors Band.
The band performed at Stambaugh Auditorium on Nov. 10 directed by William Owens.
Band Director Mike Shevock nominated the students to participate in the performance.
Shevock said that students apply for the honor, and then from those students Shevock chooses who to nominate.
“I consider how they performed on their chair placement playing test. I only nominate the best that apply,” Shevock said.
Nine students from Glenwood Junior High here selected to perform.
Students included seventh-graders Celesta Richard (percussion), Nicholas Ricottilli (alto saxophone), Angelo Marcella (trumpet) and Logan Rosko (trumpet), and eighth-graders Alayna Spencer (clarinet), Emma Vondran (clarinet), Carli Hamilton (clarinet) and Cami Goske (baritone).
Special recognition was given to eighth-grader Anna Shevock, who was a principal chair flute, piccolo and piano player.
These students were nine of 120 students at were chosen to perform with the band, and were chosen from a three county area.
After band directors from Mahoning, Trumbull and Ashtabula county nominate their students, a committee selects students based on the nominations.
Shevock said that students are chosen based on skill and balancing the sound of the band.
“Personally, I believe this experience is beneficial,” Shevock said. “Our students get to perform with the best (nominated) students from the tri-county area. Our students get to make new friends.”
