The Canfield High School choral music department hosted its annual winter concert on Dec. 6.
Under the direction of choir director Kelly Scurich, the concert choir, One Octave Higher choir and Canfield chamber ensemble performed holiday songs for family and friends.
Scurich welcomed the audience to the concert.
“Good evening and thank you for joining us tonight. We have an array of musical selections for you from a variety of places, time periods and styles. We hope you enjoy,” Scurich said.
The concert choir began the concert with “Calypso Christmas” by Natalie Sleeth, “Cold Wind Blows on the Valley” by Andrea Klouse and finished their portion of the concert with “Little Saint Nick” arranged by Jay Althouse.
The One Octave Higher choir then took the stage to perform “Alleluia Rejoice” by J. Edmund Hughes and then moved into “Colors of Winter by Amy Bernon. The One Octave Higher choir finished their portion of the concert with a lively rendition of “Candy Cane Lane” arranged my Mac Huff.
The Canfield chamber ensemble began their performance with “Joy Shall Be Yours in the Morning” by Randall Stroope and followed that performance with “Christmas Time Is Here” arranged by Michele Weir. The choir ended their portion of the concert with a showy rendition of “The Twelve Days After Christmas” by Frederick Silver, which included theatrics and dance moves.
To close the winter concert, all choirs joined together again on stage to sing “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen” with a solo by Joey Bruno. The mass choir then invited their audience to join them in a sing-a-long of “O Come All Ye Faithful,” Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Jingle Bells.”
In keeping with tradition, alumni who had studied under Scurich who were in attendance were invited to join the choirs on stage to sing “Silent Night” by Paul Sjolund. Emily Duncko performed a solo during the song.
Choreographer for the concert was Scurich, with Ronnie Sue Gregory serving as accompanist. Tim Elder and Thomas Scurich served as paraprofessionals. Kat Roman and Kayla Fekety served as student conductors and student accompanists included, Andrew Crans, Jordan Helmick, Grace Li, Julia Mosher and Abby Stilson.
Instrumentalists included Ty Schaab, Kayla Fekety, Kat Roman, Abby Palmer and Catherine Esper.
