CRAFT SHOWS
Austintown Fitch Choir Boosters will host a Santa’s Workshop Craft Show in the Fitch High School cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The show will offer crafts, consultants, a 50-50 raffle and a basket auction. The fundraiser will benefit the choir boosters, who are raising money for a trip to the Navy Base in Norfolk, Va.

Big Brothers Big Sisters will host a “Jingle Bell Calendar Raffle” fundraiser during this month. All participants who donate $10 will be eligible to win $50 per day in December based on the 3-digit Pennsylvania evening drawing. The prize is $500. Levin Furniture, 836 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles, will host a “Photos with Santa” fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Photos will be emailed to families after the event. The event is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital of Mahoning Valley.

Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, has new and gently used clothing for the entire family. With each $20 purchase throughout December, shoppers get a free holiday sweater/blouse or wedding, holiday/prom dress or a men’s suit or sport coat.
Salem Historical Society is using the theme “Made in Salem” for the annual Salem community calendar. This edition of the calendar features all photographs in full color. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Prizes include a wooden, hand-crafted 48 cup Keurig cup storage containers made by Hardway Home and an Amish-made oak child’s desk made by Carlisle Oak. Austintown Farmers Market will host a Winter Market and community event at 5 p.m. Friday. The market will offer a shopping experience for those seeking Christmas gifts as well as activities for all. Horse-drawn wagon rides will begin at 6 p.m. as Santa arrives. Free photos with Santa will be offered starting shortly after his arrival, and his workshop will be available for free kids’ crafts as well as a gift wrapping station. There will be a s’mores station, hot-chocolate bar, 50-50 and basket raffle and door prizes. The sponsor for this event is Greenwood Chevrolet, providing the free wagon rides and gift wrapping station. The Associated School Employees Credit Union is providing the free photos with Santa. Other sponsors include Attorney Robert Price, Mary Kay by Dianne Bitner, Cyclone TNT, Mr. Fix It and Captured Grace Photography. Boardman Spartan Holiday Shootout youth basketball tournament for the fourth, fifth and sixth-grade boys divisions will take place Dec. 26 through 28 in the Glenwood Middle School Gymnasium, 7635 Glenwood Ave. It will begin at noon Wednesday and Thursday and at 9 a.m. Friday. The event includes a four-game guarantee in shootout format, 25-minute running clock. Awards will be given for first- and second-place in each division. Entry fee is $160 per team. Choffin Career & Technical Center Early Childhood Education program will host its 38th annual Mitten Tree Campaign today through Friday. Donations of children’s gloves, mittens, hats, socks, and school supplies are needed and may be dropped off at Choffin, 200 Wood St., Youngstown. Items collected will benefit the Choffin Preschool Center and Mahoning County Children’s Services.
Liberty Sports Hall of Fame will host a Basketball Hot Shot and Corn Hole Competition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 29 at the L.Y.R.I.C., formerly the Liberty High School gymnasium. Area children in grades 5 through 12 are invited to sign up for either (or both) competitions. Cost is $10 per person for basketball competition and $20 per corn hole team. Nevels Temple Church of God in Christ, 939 Elm St., is sponsoring the last day to sign up for its free toy giveaway from 1 to 1:30 p.m. today. The giveaway is intended for children up to age 17. Participants cannot be signed up at the Salvation Army or through any other organization; checks will be conducted. Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice Senior Center is sponsoring a bus trip to The Wheeling Island Casino and Oglebay Festival of Lights. The bus will leave the center at 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday for Youngstown Skate to meet the rest of the group before leaving. Participants are asked to use the side parking lot only. While en route, participants will play bingo and have raffle drawings. Upon arrival at Wheeling Downs, each person will receive $25 in free slot play. The bus will leave the casino at 4 p.m. for the Oglebay Festival of Lights.
